When you run code that accesses a Teradata database version 16.00 or later and that generates results in which the row size exceeds 64K, the following error might occur:

This issue can occur in the following scenarios:

• You use the columnInfo action with the CAS procedure.
• You run code that reads a Teradata table, including but not limited to the SQL, DS2, FEDSQL, CASUTIL, and CAS procedures.

This issue occurs because a new feature, which enables support for wide-row tables, was introduced in Teradata 16.00. The previous limit was 64,000 bytes.

Beginning with SAS^® 9.4M7 (TS1M7) and SAS^® Viya^®, the DS2, FEDSQL, and CAS procedures will support this new Teradata feature. 

The DATA step, and other procedures, like PROC SQL, including Explicit SQL, can still get the error for wide-row tables. However, refer to SAS Note 68644, "Accessing Teradata 16.00 or later results in 'Row size exceeds 64K bytes...incompatible with the Client software' when you use certain procedures," for an update.

The only workaround is to restrict the number of columns to avoid exceeding the 64K row size.
